As I said in class, next week you are going to give a short presentation. It can be about any topic and about 5 minutes long. As we talked about in class, here are some things to remember:
Objective
The objective is to experiment with different communication styles. Is the objective to give an amazing presentation? No! An amazing presentation comes after many months of repeated practice. What you're doing is just the first step! Here are the different ideas:
1. Focus on one idea
Remember, the audience should be able to know what your talk is about. That is:
- A single sentence
- Something you can agree or disagree with
- An answer (not a question)
- Specific
- Interesting
Need help? This video is pretty useful. When you have an idea, email it to me and I will help you!
2. Use questions
Use open ended questions to interact with your audience. We want to talk too! These are good not just for giving presentations, but for having more meaningful interactions in English and communicating better. Here's a teacher giving some ideas about open ended questions:
3. Have fun!
As always, enjoy your talk! This challenge is a good way to get out of your comfort zone and try something new in English!
